🥩 Signature Recipe: The Takengon Sumatra BBQ Sauce
Coffee isn't just for desserts. The intense, low-acid, earthy, and dark chocolate cupping notes of our Takengon Sumatra make it a world-class savory ingredient. Whisking a concentrated brew into a brown sugar and ketchup base gives this sauce a distinct, pitmaster-style woodsmoke complexity that perfectly glazes ribs, brisket, or pulled pork.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup strong-brewed Sumatra Coffee (cooled)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse black pepper
- A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
- Combine: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cooled Sumatra coffee, ketchup, dark brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, molasses, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
- Spice it Up: Stir in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Thicken and Cool: The sauce is ready when it thickens up and easily coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
- Serve: Slather it onto your favorite meats during the last 10 minutes of grilling, or use it as a rich dipping sauce at the table! Store any leftovers in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to two weeks.
